Collaboration between Animoca Brands and Japan’s KDDI for Web3 metaverse projects – Global Village Space

Animoca Brands Japan and KDDI have announced a collaboration to accelerate the adoption of Web3 through the Mocaverse and αU platforms. Animoca Brands Japan, the Tokyo subsidiary of Web3 company Animoca Brands, will be partnering with KDDI, a major Japanese telecommunications provider, to create a seamless and interoperable experience for users in the Web3 gaming and entertainment space.

The collaboration will involve integrating Mocaverse’s decentralized identifier (DID) Moca ID with the αU wallet. This integration will allow users of the αU wallet to easily access Web3 content within the Mocaverse ecosystem, including games, entertainment, and cultural experiences. The goal is to create a metaverse-like experience for users, where they can immerse themselves in a variety of Web3 activities.

In addition to the integration of Mocaverse and αU, the collaboration aims to promote joint ventures between Animoca Brands’ intellectual property (IP) and Web3 content and αU. This includes the sale of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) related to the Web3 game Phantom Galaxies on the NFT marketplace αU market.

Animoca Brands is known for its diverse Web3 investments, including blockchain games, metaverses, decentralized finance (DeFi), and wallets. Animoca Brands Japan plays a crucial role in expanding the reach of Japanese IP and content in the Web3 domain.

Mocaverse, originally Animoca Brands’ membership NFT project, has evolved into a growth network that features various systems for account management, identity verification, reputation, and PointFi. Since its launch in November 2023, Mocaverse has gained over 750,000 on-chain users through its Moca ID system.


Phantom Galaxies, developed by Blowfish Studios, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, is an online multiplayer science fiction action RPG that leverages blockchain technology to offer players unique ownership experiences. The game is going into early access and will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

KDDI entered the Web3 and metaverse space with the launch of αU in March 2023. αU is a comprehensive service that allows users to seamlessly transition between the real and virtual worlds. It includes the αU wallet for managing NFTs and cryptocurrencies, the αU market for buying and selling NFTs, the αU metaverse for entertainment and socializing, αU live for 360-degree music concerts, and αU place for virtual shopping experiences.

The collaboration between Animoca Brands Japan and KDDI is seen as a significant step towards the mass adoption of Web3. Shunpei Tatebayashi, general manager of Web3 business development at KDDI, emphasized the importance of content in driving this adoption.

Benjamin Lee, managing director of Blowfish Studios, echoed this sentiment and emphasized the potential for innovation in the digital realm.
