In October, the first Metaverse Olympics will take place, the new challenging educational project by Itaca, the FMTS Group network start-up leader in the development of educational content in Virtual Reality, with the sponsorship of the Campania Region. «Be your own champion» is the chosen claim for the unprecedented challenge: it is much more than a game and promises to be an educational experience capable of teaching through play, focusing on the participants’ talents.

The Olympics, unique in their kind, propose to high school students in Italy to compete in three subjects: natural sciences, physics, and English. But there’s more. The Olympics will demonstrate the inclusive value of the Metaverse, offering young people the freedom to be themselves, strong in their knowledge, cross-disciplinary skills, and abilities. The start will be on October 30, 2024, at the headquarters in Via Leonardo Da Vinci, 15 in Pontecagnano Faiano (Salerno, Campania). Using Virtual Reality headsets, in combination with ITACA’s educational modules, students will experience an immersive and engaging educational experience, capable of combining traditional learning with technology in a unique and original format.

The tests are divided as follows: for natural sciences, students will face a test that will assess their understanding of fundamental scientific principles through theoretical and applied questions. For physics, they will have to solve problems and apply the laws of physics through engaging virtual simulations; the English test consists of a test of English language comprehension and communication skills, with multiple-choice quizzes on various topics. Each test will last 5 minutes, and in these 300 seconds, students will have to demonstrate their skills and abilities in a highly immersive virtual reality environment.

The event is open to all Italian public secondary schools; each institution can nominate a team composed of two students preferably enrolled in the fifth year for the 2024/25 school year, selected for their preparation and competence. Schools will be divided into groups. Students will first face individual tests: in practice, one student, preliminarily identified by the school, will take the natural sciences test, and at the same time, the other identified student will take the physics test; at the end of the 5 minutes, the two students will face the English test together. Once the tests are completed, an overall score will be assigned to the school. The winning schools of the individual groups will compete against each other in the same manner as the group stage. At the end, a ranking will be drawn up.
