Hong Kong’s WowWee has inked a new licensing deal with Mystic Moose to manufacture and distribute a range of toys based on the game developer’s metaverse franchise Planet Mojo.

WowWee is initially planning to create action figures based on the 15 characters featured in the brand’s first multiplayer game, Mojo Melee. Each one will also come with a QR code that mints them into NFTs and digital collectibles that consumers can use in the game.

The IP’s lore takes place on a mysterious planet where forces of nature are losing ground to a technological plague sweeping across the land. In response, a bunch of plant-based creatures called Mojos sprout from the ground and band together with a cast of champions to fight back.

WowWee is no stranger to exploring the space between metaverse games and physical consumer products. In 2021, the company launched a line of toys for Roblox title Twilight Daycare, following up the next year with its own My Avastars dolls and game. WowWee also previously collaborated with Mystic Moose founder and CEO Mike Levine in 2018, when it launched an UNTAMED ARena gaming app and toy line with augmented reality game developer HappyGiant, which Levine was heading up as CEO at the time.

The Mystic Moose team launched its Planet Mojo gaming metaverse in 2021, raising US$5 million in funding for the IP from investors including Animoca Brands, Courtside Ventures, Republic Crypto and Polygon Studios. In addition to Mojo Melee, Mystic Moose is currently developing GoGo Mojo and Mojo Maker games to expand the franchise.
